It is a time of dangerous instability in the Old Republic. Five years previous,
the massed Sith Armies of Darth Revan and his successor, Darth Malak were
defeated in what the galaxy now refers to as the Jedi Civil War. Following the
defeat of Darth Malak, a redeemed Revan soon vanished from the galaxy, leaving
uncertainty in his wake as the Republic attempted to put itself back together. In
the meantime, the Jedi became scarce, and soon the only one left to public view
was one known as the Exile. Recently, however, the Exile has begun to stir,
sparking great events in the regions she has visited, and some of the disappeared
Jedi are slowly beginning to resurface to aid in the rebuilding of the Republic.

With morale and infrastructure both low in the Republic, many efforts are being
undertaken by several parties to revitalize the many necessary systems, and to
renew ties, but thus far, it has been slow going. The recent troubles in Onderon
has caused significant disturbance, and many wonder if the Republic might yet
be in danger of collapse.

Onto this stage of fear and loathing strides a new subject: a new space station
has been sighted in the Outer Rim, near the Unknown Region. It seems dark
and silent on the outside, though sensors indicate that it IS active and has viable
organic beings hiding somewhere within it. It does not return hails, and nobody
who has boarded it has returned to break the silence. In the meantime, its
erratic travelling patterns and its habit of ‘jumping’ to different systems through
hyperspace causes many of the tactical minds of the Republic great concern,
especially since its electronic signatures resemble those of the mighty Star Forge,
Darth Revan and Malak’s powerful, fleet-producing station, long since destroyed.
The Republic has thus sent a team on board the Republic capital ship,
the New Hope, to seek out and investigate the station.

Unbeknownst to the New Hope and its personnel, the space station
(named the Abyss for its darkness and its silence) does indeed host life-forms.
In fact, it is a kind of prison where amnesiac beings attempt to survive in
the lightless, horror-strewn corridors. The inmates of this deathtrap are forced
to endure an existence of evading the many lethal traps and droids of the station…
as well as being wary of one another. The shadowed Abyss has become a den
of madness and suffering, but even here, some glimmer of hope remains, as
a small number of individuals begins to find their memories stirring…
