Factions

The Factions

The Abyssals – The prisoners of the space station Abyss. These are
the largest focus of the game as a whole, as it is their struggles that
will shape the next phase of the galaxy’s history. Abyssal characters
are those who have begun to awaken to the real horrors of the Abyss
station, and decided for their own reasons to put a stop to it. The
only thing that stands in their way is the crazed droids and mechanized
defenses of the station itself – not to mention each other. Oh, and
there’s that nagging, niggling little problem of the amnesia…

-Abyssals are the ‘default’ character type. They start play with 10
Skill points rather than the normal 7, but suffer amnesia, and have
little access to training or equipment. Every Abyssal character has
a number of ‘memory-triggers’ equal to their Knowledge attribute.
These triggers allow memories to stir as appropriate for the character,
such as an Abyssal Jedi having flashbacks when he sees a lightsaber.
The flashbacks, while distressing, can often be informative, and can
lead towards the recovery of the Abyssal’s memory.

The Republic – This is largely made up of the crew of the New
Hope, and the refugees it has picked up on its extended mission.
The New Hope and its inhabitants are being tasked with the mission
of investigating the Abyss station, as well as locating any other Jedi
to aid in the rebuilding of the Republic after the Jedi Civil War.
Most of the refugees that the New Hope has picked up are the odd
straggling Jedi or the few Force Sensitive beings that have come out
of hiding, not to mention any number of Force-blind beings who have
somehow latched onto the New Hope and its crew to get by…

-Republic characters are the second ‘default’ character type. In most
ways, they are standard WEG characters. They have the standard
starting traits, but their access to equipment and training is far superior
to that of the Abyssals.

The Sith – When most of the people of the galaxy think of the Sith,
it’s not the warped perversion of Jedi teachings their brains snap to,
it’s the imposing figures clad in silver and black armor: the ubiquitous
Sith trooper. Though the Sith were suffered a big defeat at the hands
of Revan and his group, many important leaders have attempted to take
up the mantle of leadership of the once mighty armada. The local
remnant is actually very well-organized under a leader they call only
“the General”. They prefer to harry the Keythians and the Exchange
ships while they quietly gather up support and strength for another
assault on the ailing Republic…

-Sith characters are not currently being permitted, and this is not likely to change.

The Exchange – Though not a major player in this drama, the massive
crime syndicate known as the Exchange sits behind the scenes, pulling
plenty of strings. Currently, much of their efforts are actually leveled
at dealing with the competition inspired by the Keythian Pirates…

-Exchange characters are not currently being permitted, though this may change in the future.

The Keythian Pirates – Once a small outfit around a backwater planet,
the new mind behind the Keythian Pirates has turned the group into a
fleet to be feared in the wake of the Jedi Civil War. Occasionally,
they are even able to give the Republic and the Sith Remnants a few
problems with their hit and run tactics, though their mysterious new
leader has been careful not too provoke too many reactions by getting
too greedy…

-Keythian characters are not currently being permitted, though this may change in the future.

A note about the Jedi: Although they would possibly constitute a faction
of their own, the current state of the Jedi in the continuity followed by
SW:A does not truly support such an idea. Most of the Jedi have been
wiped out, with only a few coming out of hiding or being sought out by
young hopefuls. There is currently no Council, and no structure to fall
back on. Even Coruscant and Ossus have fallen silent when it comes
to Jedi. As such, each Jedi or hopeful must be his or her own person.
As things stand, the New Hope probably hosts the largest gathered group
of them, and those Jedi unlucky enough to be imprisoned on the Abyss
probably have very little memory of what a Jedi IS, anyway.

Continuity Note for Andara players: This game takes place approximately
fifty years after the events of Andara Chronicles. Those interested in
playing their characters from that room, or who have continuity questions
should contact me so we can work things out.
